Perfecting the Perfection of Wisdom:
The 24-Week Meditation Practice
By Maitreya Christos
The study of The Perfection of Wisdom in Ten Thousand Lines is a noble cause, and a prerequisite to achieving Buddhahood. 'The Four Great Deeds of the Buddha' is a summary and commentary of this most precious offering. You are encouraged to read it thoroughly and to study carefully each of its thirty-three chapters. While study is very important, we also need to practice. The Perfection of Wisdom in Ten Thousand Lines is an intricate roadmap of meditation discourse. Without a teacher to guide us through this meditation roadmap, we can easily lose our way. And if we study only, and do not practice, then we have not begun the journey. Many people are afraid to practice, because they don't know where to start. It is fortunate indeed the wisdom Buddhas have taken pity on our plight and given us an easy-to-follow meditation practice. While scribing this practice, a great flash of light appeared before my eyes, as a sign and confirmation of the integrity of the teaching. Just as in the building of a great house, or a noble palace, the practice begins with building the foundation, and adding additional layers, until the whole house or palace is complete.
